BPW: Green Heron

We’ve been back from Florida since Friday and I’m getting ready to publish a few posts about the bit of birding we go in while on the road. This Green Heron was one of my favorite sightings. We get them up here in Northern Illinois, but they are so shy here we almost only catch them when they fly over – like they’re in a hurry to get out of view. This one we saw at Viera Wetlands was strutting around like a rock star (and kind of looking like one, too).

We missed this guy when we were at Viera Wetlands last April – it was quite windy then.

Great shot and looking forward to more of your Florida bird photographs.

That bird really looks as if it is posing especially for your camera. Nice shot!

Very handsome bird. I suspect he knows it. ;_)

    Lovely shots, Amy.

Nice view and nice photo – my first thought was “punk rockster” as well. To think, people have to pay good money to imitate that bird’s natural look.

I have a green heron living by our salt water canal in South Florida. We see it every few days walking around the grass and at night standing under the trees. It’s fairly large and not quite as shy as I undersand these birds to be.
